Full Description

Leak diverters are an emergency leak prevention tool that can be rapidly deployed in the event of a roof or pipe leak in a facility. Leaks in industrial facilities—such as warehouses or storage buildings—are common. A leak diverter is meant to serve as a temporary leak solution until maintenance or repairs can be performed. Keeping a leak diverter on the premises of a facility will enable rapid response in the event of an unexpected roof or pipe leak. Basic Concepts, trusted for a wide range of spill containment products for over 20 years, offers ceiling and pipe leak diverters to protect your equipment and inventory from spill damage.

Leak diverters from Basic concepts can attach to ceiling rafters or pipes using high-powered magnetic grips or with zip ties through the grommets in each corner of the diverter. The vinyl-coated construction of the leak diverter makes it a durable and waterproof spill containment solution. Leak diverters from Basic Concepts are designed to drain liquid into the center low point of the diverter. To drain the liquid that has collected in the diverter, simply attach any ¾” drain hose (standard garden hose) to the diverter and safely channel liquids into floor drains or spill containers.

The leak diverter is designed to divert overhead pipe and ceiling leaks to containers or floor drain and away from your equipment and inventory. The leak diverter quickly deploys and is offerered in two different designs.  One design features grommets and the other features high-powered magnets in each corner to secure the leak diverter in place beneath the leak.  Standard sizes are 5×5, 7×7, and 10×10, with custom sizes available.

Keeping a leak diverter in your facility’s emergency spill response kit can prevent leaks from damaging expensive equipment or machinery. Basic Concepts has been a trusted supplier of spill containment products to military installations and industrial facilities all over the world. Leak diverters from Basic Concepts are available in 5×5, 7×7, and 10×10 standard sizes, with custom sizes available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Having A Leak Diverter An Osha Requirement?

The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) is responsible for drafting and regulating the workplace safety requirements of all commercial or industrial facilities. Section 1910.22(a)(2) of the OSHA regulations concerning walking or working surfaces stipulates that all workroom floors must be kept clean, maintained, and dry to the extent that this is reasonably feasible.

Section 1910.22(d)(2) further stipulates that hazardous conditions on walking or working surfaces must be guarded until repairs can be made. This means that while leak diverters may not be explicitly required by OSHA’s safety guidelines, they certainly fit the parameters for guarding against slips, trips, and falls in the workplace.

According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, over 700 deaths occur on average each year due to slips in the workplace, and slips are one of the leading causes of workplace injury. Using a leak diverter to keep personnel safe from potential slip hazards will protect employees from harm and organizations from liability.

What Types Of Liquid Can You Use A Leak Diverter On?

Leak diverters can be used to protect facilities from a variety of liquids that may leak from ceilings, pipes, or other areas. The most common application for a leak diverter would be collecting water that leaks into a building from the ceiling or roof due to damage to the building’s infrastructure. Damaged pipes are another common source of leaks in industrial or commercial buildings. Leak diverters can be placed under pipes to collect liquids and prevent them from reaching walking or work surfaces.

How Do You Install A Leak Diverter?

Leak diverters from Basic concepts are designed for easy installation so that they can be rapidly deployed in the event of an emergency leak or spill. Leak diverters can be attached in two ways. Each corner of the leak diverter features a high-powered magnet that can attach to ceiling rafters of other metal objects on the ceiling of a facility. Alternatively, leak diverters also feature grommets in each corner that can be used with zip ties that attach to ceilings, pipes, or rafters.

How Much Weight Can A Leak Diverter Hold?

The weight that a leak diverter can hold depends on its size. Leak Diverters from Basic Concepts are available in 5×5, 7×7, and 10×10 standard sizes, with custom sizes available. To prevent leak diverters from becoming overburdened with liquid, it is important to drain them frequently. To drain a leak diverter, simply attach any ¾” drain hose (standard garden hose) to the diverter and channel the liquid from the diverter into a floor drain or secondary spill container.
